15th July to 18th July - Bourke to Yass and Home
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
The Blog is only a small one
as the weather has turned very cold.
So we did not venture out to much to see any historical sites and things
was to  cold for us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
15th July - Leaving the caravan Park at Bourke

  The sun has come out now we are leaving  but still very cold

We drove through the small towns as the rain did not stop.
We arrived at Dubbo by 3.pm raining.
Next day we went into Dubbo town as I wanted to do some shopping and
buy some Tracksuit Pants.
Have to keep warm.    Yes I forgot to pack mine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Left Dubbo on the 17th July and was going to stay at Orange
But as we were getting closer we could see it had been snowing there.
Looked great to see but to cold to stay for us.
listening to the radio they said it is 2.deg at the moment.
On the way out of town we saw some
 teenagers having so  some  fun making a snow ball.
So Pat said we will keep going it was still early morning
So made our way to Yass . Well the sun was shining
But by the time night fall it was freezing cold so our heater did not stop.
Next morning it was white with frost out side  and all the water hoses out side had frozen
so had a job rolling them up to pack away.
.So glad we did not have to unhook the van the night before.
It meant pat did not have to spend to much time in the cold
  even with his gloves on he said so cold.
But soon had the car heater going. I set Tom-Tom for home .
We do now the way but I like to use it for time speed and all that stuff.
Any way we arrived home at 1.30.pm
Rick was waiting out the front for us and Bundy barking like mad.
Longreach - Barcaldine - Charleville- Bourke.
Longreach - Barcaldine - Charleville- Bourke.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6th July
We stayed 2 nights at Longreach as Pat wanted to go see the
Qantas  Museum. So I stayed back at the van and did some crochet work .
This free camp get very full.  I took this photo about 10,am
 and they were starting to come in.  By 3.pm all the best spots were taken.

Qantas Iris of longreach

 Catalina

Left Longreach on the 8th July and made our way to
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Barcaldine qld  .Staying to nights here.
 Only a small town but very clean and tidy .
In the middle of town out the front of an old Railway Station
 There is a great big wooden cover over an old dead  gum tree
 That has been perceived it is said that this tree was were the workman’s union started.
 The site of the 150-year-old, 10-meter Ghost Gum located in the center of
 Barcaldine town central west Queensland.
It is a symbol of an important time in Australia's political development.
 It was used as the meeting place for shearers during their unsuccessful strike of 1891.
 During that strike, as well as the maritime strike of 1890, a crucial and historical connection was forged between unions and what was to become the
 Australian Labor Party.
 In April 2006 the Tree of Knowledge was poisoned and did not recover.
 It was felled and  perceived.  So  on 29 July 2007 the site remains an important place of
 National Heritage.
The Tree of Knowledge was included in the National Heritage List on 26 January 2006.
When the wind blows the wooden logs bang together and plays  musical notes.
It is light up of a night time
just having some fun on a music wooden thing
 While out for a look around we had to slow up for the
 cattle being driven along the edge of the road
to feed on the greener grass we gave them a wave  and the two young men waved  back.
and started creaking the wipe  for us  that sounded so good.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
10th July
We left Barcaldine  and drove on towards Charleville and found a Bush camp
just  out of town only $20. A night with power and water. So we are staying to nights here.

Behind the tin fence they all sit around the fire and have a talk and eat on munchies
 they call it happy hour.

Just going to sit  in the sunshine to get warm

 This is a lovely old Queenslander house they look so great done up.

While waiting for Pat to come with our car witch you can just see him coming along the road far right . I took a photo of an old Pub called - Old Charleville -
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
12th July arrived at Bourke N.S.W
The Darling River
After setting the caravan up in the rain and wind we decided
 to wait till the next day to go have a look  around .
We went along to take a look at the very old waif  on the Darling River.
pat went to have a look at the lower level
I just stayed up the top Level
Had a look around the town this is the main street
I must say I thought Bourke was a much bigger town.
On the way back to the caravan Park we stopped to take a photo of the old
Darling River Bridge
It is still very windy and cold here
Leaving Cooktown qld 29th June
Leaving Cooktown qld 29th June
After Leaving Cooktown qld  on Monday 29th June
 It started to rain and did not stop.  Had rain just about all the way.
The next town called  Ravenshoe we stopped for some lunch.
Where we were told to watch out for the next section of road
As there are road works and it is a real mess .
And a mess it was all mud as it was still raining and so many potholes .
It was not funny driving through it all
Being there were trucks doing the same thing this was making it worse .
Photos do not show all the pot holes that you could not miss
But we got through ok and stopped at
Walkman qld  for the night still raining. Next day we made it to.
  Greenvale  qld and no rain.  We stayed the night.
It is a small caravan park with chooks running around .
 There was one spot you have to stand on to try to get Mobil coverage .
 But it had stopped raining. We left there early next morning .
We stopped at Charters Towers qld  to do some shopping.
Brought some lovely fresh bread rolls for lunch.
 Had them with  ham and pickle , they were good.
1st July 2015
We are now at  Hughenden qld  for 3 nights.
Next day we drove to Richmond  were there is a great Dinosaur Museum .
This one took pride of place.
Called a Krono - Kronosaurus queenslandicus
 with powerful  flippers  it is thought to be more than 100 million years old
 and about  10 meter long,  A giant marine reptile with a crocodile-like head
The fossil was found by grazer Robert Hacon in January
while spraying for weeds on his cattle property .
He found the head first then started to find the rest of him .
It was a few weeks later while sitting at his front door he could see something in the ground so going over to take look he ad found another big find.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Minmi paravertebra

Minmi paravertebra was a 3 meter long ankylosaur that was discovered  in 1964
The most complete specimen found at Marathon Station,
 near Richmond in north-western Queensland
Minmi was the first ankylosaur known from the Southern Hemisphere
Minmi paravertebra was an ankylosaur, a quadrupedal dinosaur covered in bony amour

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ammonites are perhaps the most widely known fossil,
 possessing the typically ribbed spiral-form shell as pictured above.
These creatures lived in the seas between 240 - 65 million years ago
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We  left Hughenden  on the 4th July.
 Drove to Winton a small town about 2 hours’ away.
We are at a caravan park witch is owned by the local pub called Tattersalls Hotel.
Looking down the main street a small country town.

After setting the van up we went for a walk down the main street,
We saw the poor old -Waltzing Matilda  Museum  -That  all burnt down last week .
We did not go see the Dinosaur footprints was to dear for us they wanted $175. each.
on the bus.  But did get a photo of them.

Pat and I decided to go to dinner just across the road .
Looking forward to this . No cooking .
Pat had a mixed grill and I had Barramundi witch was so lovely.
Next day we went for a drive around but not really much to see.
